The house

Ground floor

Patio
A large paved area at the back of the house overlooks Staithes beck with a gate leading out to the path that runs alongside the water through the village, across the bridge and down to the harbour - a 30 second walk! The patio is furnished with a garden table and chairs for al fresco dining.

The entrance to the house is via the patio and into the kitchen

Dining kitchen

This is a large L shaped room with large kitchen and dining areas separated by an island unit. The kitchen area is laid out in a horseshoe shape with plenty of space and worktop area for several people to help out with mealtime preparations. There is a 5 burner gas hob, electric fan-assisted double oven, large microwave, large toaster, dishwasher, fridge and freezer. We provide excellent quality cooking equipment and tableware so that you can self-cater in style.

In the spacious dining area there is an attractive table and chairs to seat 8 people, ideal for family parties. You can enjoy views of the terrace and across the beck over breakfast! A CD player, with I-Pod docking station, means you can create  your own atmosphere and a collection of books almost complete the picture. But it is probably the wood burning stove that will make the most memorable contribution to your cosy evenings round the dining table.

The dining area leads to the hall and from there to the sitting room.

Sitting room

This is a pleasant bay-windowed room at the front of the house and enjoys a lot of sunlight in the summer months. It is stylish and comfortable with leather sofas, tables specially designed for the house out of reclaimed vintage timber, attractive lighting, a television with a DVD player and a music system. You should know, however, that TV reception is poor - which is why we have provided a selection of DVDs.

The dining area leads upstairs to the bedrooms and bathrooms

Bedrooms

All our bedrooms have generous, metric sized, beds with high quality pocket sprung mattresses, high quality allergy-free variable weight combination duvets and a selection of comfortable duckdown/feather and synthetic pillows so you can opt for what suits you best. King sized beds are 1.6m wide and the double is 1.4m - larger than the average. Single beds are also slightly larger than normal. All this adds up to offer you the prospect of a comfortable night to leave you refreshed to enjoy your well-deserved break. All of the rooms have been furnished with specially designed bedside cubes and mirrors made out of vintage reclaimed timber and, like the rest of the house, there is orginal art on the walls to make each room special.

Electricity and heating oil: This is included in the price of your let.

Heating and hot water: There is an oil-fired central heating system with an easily manageable timing system. The boiler also provides a continuous supply of hot water. There is a glass-fronted wood-burning stove in the dining area and logs can be purchased from the ‘Gift Shop’ (in reality an extraordinarily useful general store) which is immediately across the street from Ruby House. The wood burning stove gets very hot (the whole idea) so it is not advisable to use this if there are small children in the house.

Washing: There is an automatic washing machine in the kitchen, an ironing board on the door the cellar, and a high quality steam iron

General: The house has been completely refurbished to a high standard with new furnishings throughout. Ruby House is a non-smoking house and is equipped with smoke alarms.

Pets:  A maximum of two well-behaved pets (i.e. that live on the ground floor and don’t venture onto the furniture) are welcome by arrangement for a small extra cleaning charge.
